If you’ve always wished you could wakeboard right in the city, then we’ve got some good news. A restaurant on a boat, the Reef Club also offers watersports. So whether you want to ride the Seine off into the sunset, or you prefer to watch the sunset cocktail in hand from a turquoise Acapulco chair on deck, then this is the place.

Reef Club surf in Paris bar restaurant on riverDocked on the Seine just on the outskirts of the city, it comes with a cheerful California beach bar style. Think white washed boards, pointy beach cabins, orange  buoys, and weathered signs that read things like ‘What happens at the beach, stays at the beach.’ And even if the decor is a little over the top to transport us to Venice Beach, the Reef Club does offer a welcome change of scene for staycationers.

As we sunbathed our feet up on sofas piled with cushions, digesting our cod ceviche and tuna  bowl, nursing a glass of rosé and watching the wakeboarders glide across the water, we were in heaven. Even the slow stream of cars across the river was a distant memory.

Even if it opened last year, which by Paris standards isn’t new, the Reef Club’s out-of-the-way location in the chic suburb Saint Cloud, ensures it remains queue-free – a rarity in Paris.

Count about 30 minutes to get to the Boulogne or Pont de Saint-Cloud metro station, and then walk less than five minutes to the Reef Club’s – there’s also a Vélib (Paris’s public bike sharing system) station at the station.

While there are rarely queues, sun-seekers should put in a request for a table in the sun as the terrace is sometimes covered by a tarpaulin. It’s such a great spot that there are usually group bookings for birthdays or other, and they tend to nab the sun-facing tables.
